With summer quickly approaching, thoughts go to changes in our routines. Even
with the high gas prices, many of us will be looking for ways to "get away" from
the routine of life, relax, and recharge our batteries. Perhaps a trip ‘up
North’ (always a mid-Michigan favorite), a weekend on Mackinac Island, or a trip
to see the children and grandchildren are ways you like to spend those "…lazy,
hazy, crazy days of summer."
However you are thinking of spending your summer, don’t forget the church. I
ran across some excuses someone has suggested for not attending church: I’d
really like to go to church, but…
1. The man on television told me to stay tuned.
2. I have to check the freshness dates on my dairy products.
3. I'm observing National Apathy Week.
4. I've come down with a really horrible case of something or other.
5. My Psychic Friend advised against it.
6. None of my socks match.
7. My chocolate-appreciation class meets that night.
8. I have to study for a blood test.
While any of these might sound like a good excuse for staying home, there are
better reasons for attending church this summer:
- Worshipping with friends starts the week out on a high note.
- The church is a great place to keep up on what everyone else is doing this
summer.
- Some special music adds to the relaxed summer worship services.
- The Second Annual Hymn Sing Service in August promises to be a favorite.
- God will miss the special time on Sundays with you.
Enjoy your summer…and I look forward to being with you in worship!
