Email Everyone?

There isn't an easy way to send electronic mail to everyone on the Genesee Free-Net but there is a Freenet maillist which you or anyone can subscribe to and messages sent to this list reach all these people. This list is meant as a general forum for messages of interest to Genesee Free-Net users.

To subscribe send an email to
To: freenet-request@gfn.org
Subject: Leave blank
In the body of the message
SUBSCRIBE freenet

To send a message to this list just address it to freenet@gfn.org

If there is a message you think everyone needs to see send a copy to gfoffice@gfn.org and ask that it be sent to all users. The office volunteers will then decide what should happen to the message....forwarding it to the system administrator for posting as a universal system if it is a systemwide concern or sending it to the Electronic Maillist (freenet@gfn.org). Perhaps, they will send it back and suggest you contact individual users.

TO SEND MAIL TO AN INDIVIDUAL

From the main menu, go to the Post Office. If you know the login name of the person you want to mail to, you can select Read or Send Electronic Mail.

If you don't, there is an option to Look Up Another User; you can use this to search by first or last name, but NOT BOTH...Just type in one or the other. That will give you the email address of everyone with that name on the gfn.org system.

Once you know the login name, you can select Read or Send Electronic Mail. This will take you into PINE, our mail program. Hit 'C' in there to compose a message, and enter their email address in the To: field...Leave Cc: blank, enter the subject in Subject:, and type the body of the message below that. When you are done, press CTRL-X.
