Larry PornI have many areas of interest. Now that I am retired it would be nice to be able to pursue a few more of them. However, I have been volunteering for various organizations for a number of years and it is difficult to leave any job unfinished. Some of the areas where I have contributed are in serving the Lions Club in my community. I served as President, Secretary, Bulletin Editor and in many other offices for the local Club. I then served at the District level holding the highest position at that level as District Governor. The District Governor, at that time was responsible for 52 Lions Clubs. I sing in a Church Choir and have done so as long as I can remember. I have helped organize many Choir functions including a trip to Carnage Hall two years ago. The fund raising for the trip was the area I helped the most including the position as Treasurer for the Group. I have been working with computers since 1960 when I took a college course at MSU. I became an Electrical Engineer and worked for GM for 35 years developing various electronic products. Many of these products contained micro-computers. I have designed high speed links for the laboratory systems, cruise controls, governors, vacuum florescent automotive instrument clusters and many other projects in that period of time. I retired, as a Staff Engineer in the Advanced Engineering Electronics area. In High School I was interested in Radio Control and built several boats and Planes. After graduation I again built models and flew them as a member of the Flint Aero Modelers Club. I was also President of that organization. I dropped out when I built a house in Flushing and joined the organizations mentioned above. I have had many interesting Hobbies over the years including photography. I now spend much of my time working as a Genesee Free-Net volunteer helping those with not so great computer skills get on line. I also am the system administrator for the system I built for our church. I have also worked with the developer of the Access based software they currently use for their record keeping for both the Parish and School. What could I contribute to the Board: I would hope a little experience I have gained as an engineer and a volunteer. I think there is much to be gained from better record keeping that can be derived from the database currently under development. The volunteer experience in many areas can also be of help to the organization. The only problem I see is the simple fact that my wife might kill me for again opening my mouth to volunteer. Respectfully submitted, Larry Porn
