Minutes of Genesee Free-Net Board of Directors Meeting April 27, 2000Visitors and Convention Center Mott Foundation Building Flint, MI Call to Order: Preston called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. PRESENTPreston, McNiff, Viele, LeMieux, Potrafka, Chick-Whiteside, Baker, Paxton, Schwartz.Also in Attendance: Thomas PUBLIC COMMENTSThere were no comments from the public.OFFICERS' REPORTSChair:No report.. Vice Chair: No report. Secretary: No report. Treasurer: Schwartz distributed the reports for February and March, adding that they were routine except for a modem billing in the amount of $16,450.00. Preston will research documentation for accuracy.Recent expenditures included software and a hard drive. Schwartz also issued several refunds recently. Motion to accept the reports as presented made by Potrafka. Motion supported by Paxton. Motion carried unanimously. Finance Committee: No report. Web Site Committee: No report. Office Committee: Thomas and LeMieux took necessary steps to resolve an account. A refund has been mailed to the former member. Thomas reported on a recent compromise of the primary server that resulted in the pop server going down. Discussion.A new server has been purchased, A total reinstall was completed in addition to upgrades of the latest software revisions. Discussion of security banners ensued. Motion made by Potrafka, supported by Schwartz that GFN put banners for security reasons in every appropriate place stating that violators will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Motion carried unanimously. Discussion. Motion made by Chick-Whiteside to authorize the staff to repeat the procedures employed with the recent system compromise if the situation arises again. Motion supported by Viele. Motion carried unanimously. Sysmtes Administration As a security measure, all servers shared with FALCON have been moved
to a separate port.Thomas also reported that as
Strategic Plan Committee: At the April 8 Strategic Planning Session, one outcome was to form a
committee whose charge was to hire a consultant.
