Call to order at 5:15pm. Chair
Dennis Cavanaugh presiding.
Vice Chair Larry Porn presented a survey form
received from the Center for Non Profit Management
seeking GFN input.
Chair
Dennis Cavanaugh reported that a meeting room had been reserved at the Flint
Area Convention and Visitors Bureau for GFN Board meetings on the fourth
(4th) Thursday of each month January through October, 2007.
Additionally, a meeting room was reserved for the third (3rd)
Thursday in November, 2007. GFN does not have a December Board
meeting.
Chair Dennis Cavanaugh presented quote from LYNX Network Group
to supply GFN with managed modems for Michigan dial up. GFN members in Montrose
and Gaines would have dial up access. Quoted was $345 a month for twenty-three
(23) modems. The current Merit contract provides fifteen (15) modems for about
$390 a month.
Board Actions.
It was moved by Larry Porn and seconded
by Charles Wright that GFN replace the fifteen (15) current modems under Merit
contract with twenty-three (23) modems from the LYNX Network Group. The motion
passed by unanimous consent.
Larry Porn presented a request for account
refund from a member who was gifted with a broadband account just after
acquiring a GFN dial up account. Charles Wright moved and Les LeMieux seconded
that the refund be granted. The motion passed by unanimous consent.
It
was moved by Charles Wright and seconded by Scott Gifford that Larry Porn be
empowered to fill out the survey from the Center for Non Profit Management on
behalf of GFN. The motion passed by unanimous
consent.
Other Matters.
Scott Gifford has GFN systems permission to
change passwords and will be added to the A System Update maillist.
No
Board member volunteered to be GFN organization Treasurer. Chair Dennis
Cavanaugh and Vice Chair Larry Porn will continue performing the duties of
Treasurer for the time being.
In a voice mail
message to the office Board member Georgia Kitchen stated that because of
health problems she would not be able to serve on the Board this year. Chair
Dennis Cavanaugh ascertain if she wishes to take a leave of absence or resign
from the Board.
Chair Dennis Cavanaugh has submitted GFN 2006 tax
information to Plante & Moran. The 2006 tax forms soon should available for
submission to the IRS.
The Chair suggested that it be made policy that
GFN file tax forms before the end of January each year. It was so moved by Larry
Porn and supported by Scott Gifford. The motion passed by unanimous
consent.
Members are distressed by the amount of Spam mail they are
receiving. The System Committee will investigate the Spam problem and suggest to
the Board actions for dealing with it. Systems consultant Kenny Thomas has been
working on an OCR scanning technique that may prove effective in limiting Spam
mail.
GFN hardware systems were discussed and it appears a new hard drive
is not needed at this time.
It is hopeful that new Board member
Debra Miller, associated with Baker College, would help improve the GFN
Website.
GFN Office chair Larry Porn reported that the office is running
smoothly.
