Flint Area Convention and Visitors Bureau
502 Church Street

PRESENT:
Dennis Cavanaugh, Chair
Larry Porn, Vice Chair
Solomon Johnson, Secretary
Janet Craig, Board
Scott Gifford, Board
Chad Cramer, Website

ABSENT:
Les LeMieux, Board
Jim Thomason, Board
Kenny Thomas, Systems

Call to order at 5:04pm. Chair Dennis Cavanaugh presiding.

New IRS Form 990.
Chair Denny Cavanaugh discussed the new requirements of the revised IRS Form
990.  GFN needs written policies which include an annual disclosure
statement on contractors used, GFN volunteers and GFN gross income.  Also
needed is written organization whisleblower policy, written document
destruction policy and copies of Board meeting minutes.  Denny wants to put
policies and GFN finance statements on the Web in PDF format or maybe JPEG
format.

C/CAN.
GFN representatives met with The Consortium on Child Abuse and Neglect
(C/CAN) on August 27, 2008.  Discussion centered around putting together
information on child protection on the Internet.  Participants are
conducting a survey of available resources to put together on a Web page.
The intent is to create a resource for teaching minors how to be safe when
using the Internet.

Marketing.
Chair Denny Cavanaugh has talked on the telephone with a newspaper in
Tuscola county about advertising GFN services in out county areas.  Some
senior citizens canters remain to be contacted.  Fifteen dollars ($15) has
been paid for a booth at the Farmers Market on Saturdays.  Volunteer Chris
Hall has helped Denny on a recent Saturday.  Questioned was whether to pay
$30 for a booth on a Sunday?  Not sure there is enough traffic flow and very
few of us are available to help Denny staff a booth.

System.
Vice Chair Larry Porn reported there had been no response from the Kingston
test accounts.  Users on the Saint John Vianney school account are still
missing from the GFN database.  Hopefully, the Resource Center mail problems
have been resolved by Scott Gifford.  Chad Cramer questioned whether the
pricing of GFN Organization Accounts is a fair market value for the services
GFN provides.  Scott Gifford will set up a demonstration program (Drupal)
for Web content management that may become the basis for a new service GFN
may offer to Organizations.

Spam continues to be a significant problem for GFN members.  The Sender
Score service keeps blacklisting GFN for Spam.  Being considered is an
option entry in the database where members may specify the level of Spam
filtering to apply to their account.  The “flag” in the database would be
changed if filtering causes too many “false positives” and loss of valid
messages in member accounts.

Office.
Office Chair Larry Porn reported continuing problems with the mail server.
Mail cannot be sent at times and oftentimes a pop up error indicates there
is no valid certificate for GFN.  Chad Cramer wondered if having so many
virtual machines running on the new server was contributing to the mail
server problems.  He will discuss with System Administrator Kenny Thomas the
advisability of reverting some functions back to the old server.  There may
be a problem reverting in that the new server works in 64 bit processing
whereas the old server works in 32 bit processing.

Sixty-four (64) Individual Accounts and five (5) Organization Accounts come
due for renewal in November.

Adjournment: 6:13pm.

Next Board Meeting.
Thursday, September 25, 2008, 5:00pm, at  the Flint Area Convention and
Visitors Bureau, 502 Church Street.

Respectfully Submitted,

Solomon T Johnson, Secretary
