System.
The new server is expected to be fully on line early next week (27 July – 2 August) depending on the other work load of system personnel (Kenny, Chad and Scott.) The delay in full activation is associated with difficulties compiling 64-bit procedures for RADIUS.
There was a mail server problem from Saturday through Monday (19 – 21 July.) The old server lost communication with the new server. System Administration indicated such a glitch occurs infrequently with older machines. Members still have send mail problems. Chad truncated the time left log on the server which greatly reduced the log size. Larry reported that the number of members on line simultaneously recently was about forty (40).
Marketing.
Denny received a letter from a marketing contact in Tuscola County, Laura (898-673-3181) at the Tuscola County Advertiser newspaper (tuscolatoday.com). A radio contact (Brad Morgan at 988-672-1360, WKYO radio) has not been contacted yet.
Denny mentioned one of the benefits of being a Flint Area Visitors and Convention Bureau member, a live interview of GFN representatives on Cumulus Radio. Another benefit mentioned was packing of GFN marketing materials in with flint.com. Denny worked up some marketing text for the ad for the Tuscola County Advertiser.
Office Report.
PayPal on line renewal for members is not operative yet. Scott Gifford has to write the required scripts. There was discussion of how to require members to check their GFN mail inboxes for renewal notices and system notification notices.
Larry reported on help he supplied to Community Presbyterian Church with their networked computers. In talking with the designated user, Lillie Powe, Larry found that she, potentially, may become a GFN office volunteer. Denny indicated that DELL owes GFN $10.20.
Denny contacted Brian Spry of TelNet World Wide during the meeting to see if there was available a version of the diagnostic utility BackOffice that did not show member passwords. He was given the name Mark Wager to contact.
Website.
Denny and Chad discussed changing text on the GFN website: delete Genesee County as the only county from which members are sought, change “logon” to “login” and insert text indicating that GFN, a membership Internet cooperative, has opened membership all of Michigan.
There was no update on meeting with representatives of The Consortium on Child Abuse and Neglect (C/CAN).
Adjournment: 6:12pm.
Next Board Meeting.
Thursday, August 28, 2008, 5:00pm, at the Flint Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, 502 Church Street.
Respectfully Submitted,
Solomon T Johnson, Secretary
