Call to order at 5:10pm. Chair Larry Porn presiding.
Financial Report.
Treasurer Denny Cavanaugh had reported GFN financial activity to the Board by e-mail before the meeting. Deposits were made to the ELGA Checking account on 08/03/2009 for $1960.00 and on 08/14/2009 for $1730.00 and $1069.84 was transferred from the ELGA Savings account to the Checking account on 08/04/2009 for total deposit to Checking of $4759.84
Expenses paid through 08/24/2009 totaled $3161.76. The Checking account register balance was $2054.97. The Savings account register balance was $22,292.98.
Vice Chair Scott Gifford expressed desire for a QuickBooks or Quicken format report of GFN financial activity. Denny will look into the difficulty associated with using QuickBooks and Scott will look into getting a nonprofit version of QuickBooks or Quicken.
System Consultant Kenny Thomas' hours worked have not been getting to the Treasurer. Suggested was that a reminder be sent to Kenny to get his hours worked in before Board meetings.
Secretary Comments.
None. The Secretary needs to learn how to post Board meeting minutes to the GFN Website.
Office Report.
An office work session was held yesterday, Wednesday, August 26, to arrange office documents in file cabinets. Office furniture and furnishings are adequate for the time being. The telephone and magicJack are working but DSL is constantly changing IP address. Chad and Larry will work on setting up VPN after the Board meeting.
Systems Report.
The RADIUS and Mail functions are still running on the old server. Large mail files were discovered in user home directories. File sizes have been adjusted. Scott and Chad will try to get all functions moved to the DELL server in the next couple of weeks. The Untangle server is working well. Scott has sent e-mails to the System Committee on problems encountered (error messages and failure modes.)
123.com modems are now running with monitoring software. Ten modems were subscribed but recently twelve have been in use by GFN. Telnet World Wide service has been cut to one PRI line or twenty-three (23) modems.
Other Old Business.
Preparation continues for the Annual GFN meeting in October. Meeting time needs to be coordinated with Bristolwood Community of Christ Church. The November and December Board meetings will be combined on a date in early December.
Note: On Friday, August 28th Nicky Hodge relayed that the large room in the basement of the church had been reserved for the GFN Annual meeting for 7pm, Thursday, October 22, 2009 and that 5pm, Thursday, December 3, 2009 had been reserved for the regular Board meeting.
New Business.
It was decided that no System Consultant check shall be issued when hours worked for the month are not reported.
ELGA Credit Union Member2Member program was discussed after a card describing the program was distributed. GFN would receive a listing in the ELGA online directory , along with a GFN account discount offer, a link to the GFN Website and GFN contact information. Denny Cavanaugh moved and Scott Gifford seconded that GFN subscribe to the ELGA Credit Union Member2Member service. The motion carried.
Comments.
Discussion arose around offering a free three month GFN account to any unemployed person. Account setup would be free also. Board consensus was to empower a committee of one to contact the unemployment office and devise a procedure for implementing free GFN accounts for unemployed persons. Scott Gifford will contact his unemployment office contact for information.
The annual announcement seeking candidates for GFN Board election needs to be issued by the Vice Chair. Comments were made about seeking volunteers from Mott Community College and Genesee Intermediate School District.
GFN office volunteer Chris Hall was appointed to the GFN Board and agreed to serve.
