The meeting of the GFN Board was called to order at 5:12pm by Board Chair Larry Porn.
Addition to Agenda.
It was recommended that GFN acquire non-profit insurance.
Financial Report.
GFN Status.
Treasurer Dennis Cavanaugh provided a handout showing GFN financial status.
$146 was left from the Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) grant.
$200 was left in the ELGA checking account. End of month deposits remain to be made.
$22,518.49 was left in the ELGA savings account.
The Treasurer's handout was accepted.
Secretary Comments.
Chad will post the Board minutes to the GFN Website later tonight.
Office Report.
Six (6) accounts were deleted for August expiration and there were five (5) new accounts created. Eight (8) accounts have been shutoff so far (9/23/2010), with one (1) reinstated and twenty-one (21) renewed.
Systems Report: Unfinished Work.
Server migration to the DELL machine needs to be completed.
Mail Server: Need to finish the database.
Database: Larry still needs to check the moved UDF interface.
Web Server: Data migration from gfn.org → ns.gfn.org using rsync by Chad is ongoing.
Modems: 123.net is running with monitoring software at user rates of about six maximum and one average and charges only by usage. Telnet PRI line (23 modems) costs GFN $19 per modem per month and provides much better diagnostics for troubleshooting connection problems. Larry explained the usage report which tracked the last 30 days worth of usage.
Other Old Business.
Progress has been made in two areas: Web Accounts through the Strategic Planning meetings and the creation of a Proposal to run a pilot site hosting program.
Recruitment of new dial-up customers largely through the efforts of Nicky Hodge. Scott Gifford will check if Jenni Dones of BEST has sent out the survey developed with Terrance Campbell.
New Business.
Discussed was the Pilot Website Hosting Proposal developed by Larry Porn which was suggested in the final Strategic Planning session. The proposal was amended to add two volunteers to work on the Website Pilot Project.
It was moved by Nicolette Hodge and seconded by Denny Cavanaugh the the Proposal be accepted as modified to include two volunteers. The motion carried.
Comments.
Prior to the Board meeting, Larry interviewed a potential Drupal volunteer to work on website development. A few weeks ago another potential volunteer was interviewed but did not give a favorable impression of blending in with the GFN mission.
Scott Gifford ordered a number of books to be used by staff and volunteers to help with the work of running the Website Pilot Project. All of the MNA grant monies were used by the September 23 deadline.
