ABSENT:

Call to order at 5:20pm. Board Chair Larry Porn presiding.

Additions to Agenda.
Chair Larry Porn reported that AT&T telephone service for the office was modified to save on expense. Long distance service will be $10 per month for 200 minutes. After 200 minutes of long distance has been used for the month, staff should use the magicJack service for the remainder of the month.

GFN directors and officers liability insurance is due for renewal. Chair Larry Porn has been searching for a provider with a lower insurance premium.
(Update Note: Liability insurance renewal premium of $745.00 was paid by treasurer Dennis Cavanaugh to Smith Peabody Styles Insurance on 05/05/2010.)

Financial Report.
Treasurers Report.
GFN Status.
Treasurer Dennis Cavanaugh reported that a deposit was made today (04/22/2010) to the GFN ELGA account. Checking account balance stands at $3360.00.

Secretary Comments.
Chad has posted the February and March board minutes to the GFN Website.

Office Report.
The router stopped working yesterday (04/21/2010) and the DSL modem still drops out frequently. Apparently, DSL speed has been switched to 3Mbps from 6Mbps.

Ten (10) Individual member accounts were shut off this month. Seven (7) members were lost last month. Janet Craig reported that twenty-five (25) Individual accounts will be due for renewal August 1, 2010. Larry worked with a blind college student from Ortonville and set up his Windows CE braille computer to work with the GFN server.

It was suggested that renewal checks be deposited more frequently or about twice a month. The office has received queries from members as to whether payment was received when checks not yet deposited by GFN do not appear in their bank statements.

Systems Report.
Chad and Scott are still working to migrate system files to the DELL. Chad found that the Mail server partition was almost full and cleared it. An older version of PHP software was installed for the Web server after MBEA, Kirsten and Joe Bean, working with the SJV site, encountered problems. Joe is ready to meet with SJV and Chad will set up the meeting.

Potential system volunteer Brian Edwards has returned to the area and needs to be contacted about service to GFN. Mentioned again was the need to try to better utilize the modems to keep expenses low. As the opportunity arises, staff should migrate members to the Telnet Worldwide PRI modems. The 123.net modems are only charged by usage whereas GFN must subscribe to a minimum 23 PRI modems at $19 per modem per month. Also, dial problems are easier to diagnose with the PRI modems.

Other Old Business.
The missing check problem has been resolved. The result of the research at ELGA confirming that payment by GFN had been made was sent to Kenny Thomas. An e-mail confirming delivery of correspondence to Kenny Thomas was sent to Larry by the postal service.

New Business.
Discussed the hours submitted for consultant work in January and February by Kenny Thomas. The board needs an itemized list of work performed. It was moved by Nicky Hodge and seconded by Denny Cavanaugh that payment to Kenny Thomas for January and February consultant work not be made pending submission of an itemized list of work performed. The motion carried.

A meeting with MNA consultant Terrance Campbell was announced for Wednesday evening April 28, 2010.

Comments.
Nicky Hodge talked about things GFN could do to advertise and get GFN before people. Discussion centered around getting free public service announcements on CARS 108 radio and the TV12 mug spot segments aired around 6am and/or noon. Also mentioned was a GFN profile or entry on Facebook. Larry will try to check with Karen Gatlin of channel 12 (abc12.com) and Nicky and Denny will work together on a marketing plan.

Adjournment: 6:37pm.

Next Meeting.
The next regular Board meeting was tentatively set for Thursday, May 20, 2010, 5:00pm, at Bristolwood Community of Christ Church, 1158 West Bristol Road, Flint MI, 48507-5518.

Respectfully Submitted,

Solomon T Johnson, Secretary
