Accessing Genesee Free-Net without PPPTo access Genesee Free-Net in text mode you will need a modem (14.4, 28.8 or 56k). You will also need a communications program. Win3.x comes with Terminal, Win95 and Win98 come with HyperTerminal. You may also use COMIT, Telix, ProComm or other general communications program. (If you want to see the full graphics on the Internet then you need a browser such as Netscape or IE (Internet Explorer) and a PPP connection. See the Help section on PPP Access.) Set your modem for the fastest speed, select the corrent COM port, 8 bit, no parity, 1 stop bit (commonly referred to as 8-None-l), Hardware Control, Full Duplex.
In order for any person to use a MichNet dial-up service, they must "authenticate".
In order to authenticate, the person must use their Access ID, and password
from their MichNet affiliate (gfn.org is an affiliate).
