Julie Rathsack Finishes 1st and 3rd at Same Regatta!!!

SCOW AP- Julie Rathsack of the Lake Fenton C Scow fleet accomplished a rare and unusual feat at the Indian Lake C Scow regatta, June 23rd & 24th. She skippered a race for first place finisher Joe Schaub and crewed two races for third place finisher Chris Craig. Joe Schaub from Lake Maxinkuckee Yacht Club in Indiana faced a tough dilemma going into the regatta, he wanted to sail, but he had to work Saturday morning as well. Fortunately for Joe he had two things going for him, his place of work is only 30 minutes away from the regatta, and Julie Rathsack. Joe decided to bring his boat over on Friday night and let Julie and his wife Jackie sail the morning races, then he would take over from there. The rest of the C Fleet thought this was a great idea, anything to get the 6th ranked sailor in the C fleet out of his boat sounded good. The first race turned out to be a very light air race that lasted over two hours so Joe was able to watch the finish. Julie surprised the fleet with a great start and rounded the first mark in third place. By the first downwind mark she was able to fight through Chris Craig and Indiana Clears' John Cochrane to take the lead. She held her lead to the next windward pin before finally falling back and finishing a close third. Joe, having avoided the intense heat of the first race, was able to add a 3rd and a 1st place finish to take a commanding lead into Sunday. Sunday was a battle for 2nd and 3rd between John Cochrane and Chris Craig as Joe added two more bullets to run away with the regatta. The real hero of the regatta however was Julie. Joe could not of won the regatta without her skipper skills and Chris would not have finished third without her crewing skills. She was able to go to the trophy podium with both the first and third place boats a rare feat indeed!! The final top five were as follows: Joe Schaub Maxinkuckee, John Cochrane Clear, Chris Craig Fenton, Marty Zacherich Clear, and Karl Lanka Spring.
