History
and Organization
Sailboat
racing on Lake Fenton started in the late 1930's.
No facility existed, so, sailors from around the lake
and their friends held the races from the shore of
someone's home. In 1968, the opportunity arose
to purchase land on the lake. The 2 1/2 acre site was
a hill with trees, overgrown weeds and 375 feet of
waterfront. The cost was $35,000. These racers,
numbering 25 or so, pooled their resources to come up
with a down payment by purchasing shares of what was
to become the Lake Fenton Sailing Club. Shares
were $250.
The
club grew over the years. As money allowed, the
membership continued to improve the property.
The two story clubhouse, dockage and parking area you
see today was completed mostly by the efforts of club
volunteers.
The
Lake Fenton Sailing Club is a nonprofit organization.
The LFSC is a shareholders organization governed by a
volunteer Board of Directors. These directors
are members elected by the stockholders. Our
leadership includes a Commodore, Vice Commodore,
Secretary and Treasurer as officers and four other
directors. These eight directors head three
standing committees. The committees address all
club business and their duties are self descriptive.
The committees are: Finance, Membership and
Management.
