Fleets at Lake Fenton Sailing Club

C-Scow Fleet

The C Scow is twenty feet long and has the advantage of being easily transportable. This one-design scow class has been active since 1905. It is cat-rigged and can be easily sailed by 2 in our normal light to medium breezes and requires 2-3 strong sailors in a fresh breeze to control it.

Laser Fleet

The Laser is a 14-foot, single-handler with a mainsail. As of 1993, it also is an Olympic class boat. Sometimes described as a physically demanding boat, the Laser, nevertheless, attracts sailors from teenagers to senior citizens. Many beginning sailors learn racing in a Laser.

Lightning Fleet

The Lightning, a 19-foot centerboard dingy, is the largest of the club's fleet single hull boats. The Lightning is raced with a crew of three under a mainsail, jib, and spinnaker. More than 15,000 Lightning's have been built and fleets exist throughout the world.

Multi-Hull Fleet

The club races different types of Catamarans. We have some Nacras as well as some Hobby Cats. The boats race based on a Handicap System.

Open Fleet

New to our Club is the open Fleet.

Optimist Fleet (Junior Sailing)

The Optimist dinghy is the ideal “learn to sail” boat as well as one that provides a challenge at the racing level. It is 8ft long, weighs 77 pounds and is powered by a single sail. It is very easy to handle on the water and on land. It was designed in 1947 in Florida and is the most widely sailed training boat in the world, with over 350,000 having been built.
