The General Road Patrol Division of the Sheriff Department is comprised of two full time sworn Police Deputies. The officers assigned to this arm of the patrol division are both well seasoned and experienced in all areas of Law Enforcement. The Deputies are funded from the County General fund and are available to all communities and citizens.
The Deputies who function in the General Patrol Classification handle calls that are dispatched both from Central Communications (911) and from the radio room at the Sheriff Department. These Deputies work first and second shift on rotating days off, and often work many specialized assignments such as drunk driving task force, high risk warrant service, funeral escorts, and parade details in addition to their everyday responsibilities.
The patrol units utilized by General Patrol are the Chevrolet Impala and Harley Davidson Motorcycles. The radio dispatch equipment is manufactured by Motorola, radar units by Decatur electronics and emergency lighting by Whelen.
