FLINT - Life started returning to normal Monday at
Carriage Manor Mobile Home Park in Flint after police
found a homemade bomb in one trailer, evacuated
neighbors and arrested four men, including two from the
park, on charges related to bomb making.
"We never had nothing like this happen," said Rose
Schumacher, 73, who has lived in the park since 1982.
"Never in my life did anything like this happen."
Four men - ranging in age from 20 to 25 - remained in
the Genesee County Jail this morning after one called
police, saying another member of the group planned to
set off the bomb in the county administration building
in downtown Flint.
No bomb was found in the county building after a
search Monday morning, and Pickell said the men may not
have actually planned to bring the 8-inch pipe bomb into
the government offices.
But Pickell said bomb-making activities are still
criminal and dangerous.
"I'm told (the bomb) had the capacity to kill and
maim," Pickell said. "It could blow up this room and all
of us in it."
County Prosecutor David Leyton said the man who made
the call could face a charge of false reporting of a
terrorist threat, a 20-year felony.
The others could face charges of possession of a bomb
or bomb-making materials, a 15-year felony.
Pickell said officers also found evidence that could
link the men to gangs or white supremacists, but that
information still was being investigated.

The bomb call came in to Flint police about 8 p.m. Sunday, and
the city informed the sheriff's department by 11 p.m. Police used a
bomb-sniffing dog to check out the county administration building,
county courthouse and McCree Courts and Human Services Center.
Police found the pipe bomb in a bedroom at the mobile home park
and detonated it after evacuating neighbors. They were led to the
trailer by the man who made the initial call, Pickell said.
Pickell said the men told investigators they detonated about nine
similar bombs they made in a remote area near Grand Blanc.
A pipe bomb is a simple type of explosive device - in this case,
a piece of iron pipe filled with explosive material.
Pickell said no timer was attached to the bomb police found.
The sheriff said he expects to increase security in the short
term at the courthouse and county building to discourage copycats
from making threats.
The suspects are 20, 21, 24 and 25. In addition to the two Flint
men, one man is from Flint Township and another from Grand Blanc
Township.
The manager of Carriage Manor said the men had been living at the
park since
January.
