The Genesee County Sheriff Department Uniformed Special Deputies were formed in 1980's as a Community Service Unit of the department. Currently, membership numbers around 140 dedicated volunteers who serve the community.Uniformed Special Deputies have worked for several different groups in the community which included: CRIM Road Race, St. John's Festival (Davison & Fenton),  March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, Jerry Lewis Telethon, Genesee County Fair, several area schools, Clio Amphitheater, and various local police departments requesting assistance.Special Deputies also do child-fingerprinting, video taping contents of homes, Jail Inspection and various other Senior Services.  There is also a group of Special Deputies who enforce the Handicap Parking areas throughout Genesee County.  The fines for Handicap Parking violations can exceed $100.Uniformed Special Deputies are called upon to help with search & rescue operations and traffic control in emergency situations.
