THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE WILL BE USED TO APPROVE SCOUTERS
AS MERIT BADGE COUNSELORS.
APPLICANT:
1. The applicant completes both sides of a current application
by printing or typing all applicable information.
2. The applicant mails or delivers the application to the Tall Pine
Council Service Center.
COUNCIL OFFICE:
1. The Council Office assures the approved applicant
is a registered Scouter.
2. Merit Badge Counselor applicants, who are not registered Scouters,
will be registered in the Council Office, unless the Council Executive,
or his representative disapproves the individual.
3. The Council Office will forward the application to the respective
District Merit Badge Counselor Coordinator.
DISTRICT:
1. The District checks the application for completeness
on both sides.
2. The District interviews and investigates each applicant
to confirm:
A. The information on the application.
B. The applicant has read the merit badge booklet and understands
the materials for which he/she will be responsible.
C. The applicant is qualified to counsel the merit badges for which
he/she has applied.
D. That all portions of question 6 on the ADULT APPLICATION side
of the application have been answered and are acceptable.
3. The District, upon acceptance, fills out the notification
card, listing all the merit badges the applicant will
be allowed to counsel, and addresses the card to the
applicant. PLEASE PRINT. The District will staple the
card to the upper left
corner of the application.
4. The District signs and dates applications that are
approved on the line marked DISTRICT APPROVAL.
5. The District confirms the counselor has a copy of
the BSA pamphlet, Merit Badge Counseling. (Contact Council
Advancement Chairman for copies)
6. If an applicant is not approved, the District attaches
a written explanation stating why the application was
denied. The explanation and the application are forwarded
to the
Council Office.
7. The District forwards all applications, both approved and
denied, to the Council Office.
COUNCIL OFFICE:
1. The Council Office dates and initials the line marked
BSA APPROVAL when the approved applicant is registered.
2. The Council Office enters the counselor's information in the
computerized Merit Badge Counselor List program.
3. The Council Office dates and initials the line
marked POSTED TO LIST when the counselor's name is added.
4. The Council Office files the application with the
other active Merit Badge Counselor forms.
5. The Council Office publishes in the Counciline all newly approved
Merit Badge Counselors monthly.
6. The Council Office notifies, in writing, candidates
whose applications are denied and files a copy of the
letter with the application.
7. Copies of the letter are forwarded to the District
Executive and the applicant's District Advancement Chairman.
