Camp Tapico

    

Camp Tapico, which is located off of M-72 between Grayling and Kalkaska, Michigan, is comprised of over 1200 acres of woodlands. It has the beautiful 120 acre Grass Lake right in the middle of camp. For more information you can contact the camp ranger, Mike Beratta, at (231) 258-9302.

    Camp Reservation Policy - Reservations for camp facilities / campsites at Camp Holaka & Camp Tapico for the dates 9/1/07 thru 5/31/08 can be made after June 1, 2007.

Refund and Transfer Policy

A written request with a brief explanation for the cancellation must be sent to the Tall Pine Council Service Center. The request should be received by the Service Center at least 3 weeks prior to the camp, activity, or event start date. A 10 percent (minimum $5.00) administration fee will be withheld from the refund. Refund requests received after the camp, activity, or event will be denied (extentuating circumstances may be the only exception). Transferring fees from one person to another is permissible before the event. The Tall Pine Council should be notified in writing of all transfers. This cancellation / refund policy was effective January 1, 1998, and supercedes any prior cancellation / refund policy of the Tall Pine Council, BSA.

Meet the 2007 Camp Tapico
Administrative Team

The beginnings of an excellent camp staff are in the making. The following key positions have been announced:

Mike Beratta will be the Camp Director, Mike has been the Ranger since 1979. He has also served as Camp Director on several occasions and has even been a National Camp School Instructor. Mike will make sure that the customer service oriented mentality is still priority number 1!

Melisa Woolridge will serve as the Program Director. Melisa returns to Tapico after having last summer off to pursue other interests. Melisa has served as Handicraft Director and also as Head Commissioner. Melisa looks forward to again having an excellent program for your scouts to enjoy.

Denise Soles will serve as the Business Manager. Denise last year started out as the Assistant Food Service Manager and then took over as Food Service Manager after a couple of weeks of camp. Denise brings a ton of energy and a smiling face to see everyday.

David T. McGregor will serve once again as the Adult Leader Trainer. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the table and has served as Program Director, Scoutcraft Director, Chaplain and many other positions in his Tapico career. He is a great resource for any unit leader attending camp who has not completed training.

The cost to attend summer camp at Camp Tapico in 2007 will be $230.00 for youth and $100.00 for adults. The 2007 youth camp fee includes a $15.00 program fee. Program and merit badge fees will no longer be required at camp (canoe trips and bike rentals will continue to require a fee). Camp fees are calculated for Sunday check in through Saturday check out.

  • Troops can save $20.00 per youth and $10.00 per adult by paying a $50 deposit per youth/$25 deposit per adult by March 1, 2007 and the balance of $160 per youth/$65 per adult by May 15, 2007. ($210.00 youth / $90.00 adult)

  • Webelos and parents who cross over to the Troop and new Scouts and leaders who register with the Troop will receive the same rate plan as their Troop.

Staff Opportunities

Camp Tapico requires a full time staff of Scouts and Scouters to run its program. Many positions are available. If you're over 15 and you're interested in a full time summer position, you can view an application and get more information by clicking on the link below. If you're at least 14 but not yet 18 by the end of the summer, and would rather only volunteer a couple of weeks, you can view the Counselor In Training (CIT) application by clicking on the link below.

Camperships
