Basic Training
Leaders should take "Basic Training" as soon as they can
after becoming leaders in the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing, or Exploring
Programs. Basic Leader Training is designed to achieve 100% trained
unit leaders. The program has two components: New Leader Essentials
and Leader Specific Training.
New Leader Essentials - These introductory sessions highlight the
values, aims, and methods of Scouting. It addresses how these aims
and methods are reached in an age-appropriate progression within Cub
Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing. Videos, discussions,
and hands-on exercises are presented during the training session.
Ideally, all unit level volunteers attend this session together so
that all leaders understand they are striving for the same results
with the youth they serve. Leaders complete New Leader Essentials
training only once during their entire service as a traditional unit
leader.
Leader Specific Training - This training provides the specific knowledge
a new leader needs to assume a leadership role. Because each course
is designed for a specific leadership position, the training time
varies. Leader specific training has been developed for the following
positions and their assistants:
· Tiger cub leader
· Den leader
· Cubmaster
· Pack committee member
· Webelos leader
· Scoutmasters
· Troop committee member
· Venturing Advisor
· Venturing committee member
